Update Ownership for Water Rights

In Alaska, water rights pair with the land the water is used on. Therefore, changes in ownership of the land do not affect the utility of the water right. However, updating the current owner of the land, and thus the current holder of the water right, is useful to both the water right holder and Department particularly for notifying water right holders of proposed appropriations that could potentially impact their water right.

To transfer a water right simply email us a copy of your deed of ownership and mailing address to the appropriate regional office:
